Description
The successful candidate will conduct research in marine wastewater treatment developing a digestor process to convert solid organic waste from a sustainable closed-loop recirculating mariculture system to biomethane.

Duties will include design, construction, integration and optimization of the digestor system in a currently existing recirculating system; isolation and culturing of anaerobic microbes; chemical monitoring; and biological monitoring using molecular techniques such as Q-PCR, ARDRA and DGGE.

The ideal candidate will also be responsible for significant contributions to peer review publications, technical reports, conference proceedings, and poster presentations and participation in grant writing is expected. This position works closely with National Aquarium staff to communicate research efforts to the public in the form of seminars, newsletters, websites, etc.

Qualifications
Ph.D. in Aquaculture Design/Management, Civil/Environmental Engineering, Wastewater Microbiology or related field is required. The ability to perform collaborative research, as well as independent research, is necessary. Applicant must have a successful publication history and be able to effectively communicate through writings and public presentation to both peers and the general public. Experience in wastewater treatment is required.

Preferred:
Experience in aquaculture operations, anaerobic microbiology and molecular biology desirable.
