Description

Lead technical position responsible for assisting the IT Team Leader in developing a mature and scalable IT enterprise environment to support research programs at the Center for Advanced Research in Biotechnology (CARB). Work with the IT Team Leader to manage heterogeneous and ever changing demands of the research environment. Assist in analyzing requirements, developing the CARB IT master plan and implementing strategic solutions. This position will serve as project manager on some projects, as a project engineer on others and as both on others. Advise scientific programmers in matters of good programming technique, manage the supercomputing clusters and compile source code applications to be shared across research groups. Manage servers and perform maintenance updates for both Microsoft and Linux platforms (e.g., database, web, AD, SAMBA). Train support personnel with a specific emphasis on deployment of new technical solutions. Serve as the Level 2 technical support for deployed projects.



Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in Computer Engineering/Science or Information Technology. Two to three years related experience working in systems administration or technical project work. Experience designing solutions for IT projects in small groups. Ability to translate and distill faculty needs into practical projects. Some experience in object oriented programming languages is needed and strong knowledge of good programming technique is essential. Strong experience with Microsoft desktop products is required. Some experience with Microsoft Windows Server platforms, Linux desktops and Linux servers is required. Web server administration with IIS and Apache is helpful. The ideal candidate will have a good sense of ‘best practices’ and be well rounded in many areas of IT. Experience with open source clustering, SAN, CMS or workstation management tools is helpful but not required to start.
