Reporting to the General Manager, Waterworks, you will manage and coordinate maintenance and field operations for the Town’s water distribution and wastewater collection (Waterworks) functions. The successful incumbent will also be responsible for monitoring and ensuring legislative compliance and reporting requirements are being met.
Responsible for the coordination and management of the Town’s Waterworks Maintenance & Operations Section. Key responsibilities include recommendation and implementation of operational and/or preventative maintenance programs and procedures for water quality sampling, water distribution operations & maintenance, water main flushing, inspection and new service activation, sewer operations & maintenance; field data collection and verification, and emergency standby and repairs; monitoring and ensuring related legislative/regulatory compliance and reporting requirements, and associated records management. Section budget preparation and administration including procurement and authorization of accounts; contract administration; contributing to Waterworks business planning; report preparation. Attendance and presentations at Committee and Council meeting will also be required.
University degree in civil, environmental or mechanical engineering with emphasis on water distribution and wastewater collection systems; eligibility for or holder of the Professional Engineer (P. Eng) designation from PEO; eligibility for or holder of Ministry of the Environment (MOE)-Certified Operator Level II in Water Distribution and Level III in Wastewater Collection (or higher); must upgrade as required by Regulation.
Job Requirements:
Candidate must possess significant experience in water distribution, wastewater collection, maintenance, and operations in a management capacity. Leadership skills and supervisory experience in a unionized environment are also essential to this position so as to foster and build strong and enthusiastic staff teams and internal/external alliances/partnership. Excellent interpersonal, project management, written and oral communication skills are required for this job. Thorough working knowledge of all associated regulations and legislative guidelines and Operator training and certification requirements are necessary for this position. Demonstrated computer literacy and experience with infrastructure management system; reliable vehicle to use on corporate business; must be able to participate in 7/24 shared on-call rotation for system operations and environmental emergency response.
