Job Description:

Applications are invited for the position of Water System Engineer. This posting closes on Friday, October 30, 2009. Reporting to the Manger of System Engineering, Waterworks Department, the Water System Engineer is responsible for the drinking water distribution system engineering analyses and development of strategies for the optimization of system performance. Key drinking water distribution system responsibilities include: Water system analyses; development, calibration, maintenance & improvements of the water system hydraulic model (InfoWater software) and water surge (InfoSurge) software. Water system operational support and specific system program support. Also included is system leakage detection, water balance calculations, economic infrastructure leakage index (LI) calculation, district management are (DMA) engineering support, and water system condition assessment support. Preparation of of RFPs and quotations as required. Management of water system projects including external consultants, rain gauge data analyses, SCADA data interpretation and analyses for water system, water use by-law support, new water system infrastructure support (development applications, capital project review and comments). This position also provides recommendations on approval, assumption, activation of new services to be added to the water system. The Water System Engineer provides administration & reconciliation & trending of the water & waste water invoice purchase & sales, and customer service with respect to water quality, water pressure, and flow concerns. Responsibilities also include development & implementation of educational programs regarding the water system, undertaking special projects related to the water system, reports as required, and input to System Engineering budgets and business planning. The Water System Engineer also provides backup to the Waste Water System Engineer, and the Instrumentation Engineer.

Job Requirements:

Degree in civil or environmental engineering with emphasis on drinking water distribution systems, surge analyses & open channel hydraulics with a minimum of 5 years experience. Experience in waste water collection systems an asset. P.Eng. designation or ability to obtain during probationary period. Demonstrated experience in distribution system modelling, and municipal water distribution system & waste water collection system engineering preferrably in an urban growth environment. Excellent interpersonal, project/time management, organizational, analytical, written and oral communication, and problem-solving skills. Thorough knowledge of applicable legislation. Computer literacy. Experience with IMS technology, preferrably Hansen, GIS, and SCADA an asset. Class G driver's licence in good standing and reliable vehicle to use on corporate business. Availability to participate in 24/7 shared on-call rotation, and attend evening and/or weekend meetings or events.
