Job Description:

Applications are now being accepted for the above position in the Recreation Services Department, Community and Fire Services Commission. You are encouraged to apply on-line at www.markham.ca. Locations: Centennial Community Centre, Thornhill Community Centre and other Community Centres throughout Markham Classes are offered 7 days a week. Summary: Under general supervision, plans, instructs and leads groups of youth through adult fitness classes. Is responsible for the training and supervision of a variety of participants of various ages and physical ability and developing a program that recognizes their capabilities and level of fitness within a community recreation environment. Motivates participants to achieve their fitness goals, while ensuring a positive and safe environment. Duties include but are not limited to: - Facilitates, leads and supervises exercise sessions in one or more assigned Fitness areas, including but not limited to STEP, Muscle Conditioning, General Fitness, and Cycle Fitness. - Provides instruction in a variety of fitness activities - Demonstrates correct exercise methods and the proper use of exercise equipment - Teaches groups of participants' flexibility, proper breathing techniques etc. and how to monitor their progress - Sets up and monitors class equipment and ensures its return in good condition - Prepares and organizes program equipment - Keeps accurate attendance records

Job Requirements:

Qualifications: - High school diploma. Post-Secondary education preferred. - Standard First Aid with CPR 'C' - AED - Group Fitness Certification meeting NFLA Guidelines - Additional training or certification and teaching a variety of class types such as Step, Cycle-Fit, Aerobics, Strength Training, Circuit Training, & Bosu-Ball classes will all be considered assets. - Candidates must possess a demonstrated ability to work co-operatively in a team environment as well as to work independently. - Good customer service skills and sensitivity to interact with a diversity of patrons in a courteous and efficient manner. - Able to deal tactfully with customers in situations where the mandate of maintaining public safety is of paramount importance
