Description:
Turbine is looking for a talented and hard-working individual who is self-motivated, process-driven, and customer-oriented, who has a passion for developing software applications using a variety of technologies. The position is a member of the Application Development team, a part of the Turbine’s central technology department.

Leveraging existing Turbine technology, the role of Senior Software Engineer is to develop and maintain Turbine’s “service experience.” The service experience includes everything the user interacts with outside of the game world, including installers, launchers, patchers, billing systems and various websites. This position will offer opportunities to work on all of Turbine’s products including Asheron’s Call®: Throne of Destiny™, Dungeons and Dragons Online™ and The Lord of the Rings Online™. Candidates are expected to work independently on assigned tasks in a fast-paced, multi-project environment, as well as share knowledge and experience to aid and improve the quality of code and development process.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop various customer-facing applications related to Turbine’s service experience
• Write extensions to Turbine’s core development framework
• Provide design and architectural oversight of new service components as needed
• Self manage when given priorities of goals and objectives
• Follow and contribute to established software development methodology and engineering practices
• Participate in testing process through unit test development, test reviews, witnessing and analysis
• Fix design and implementation level bugs and resolve issues as assigned
• Seek out opportunities to identify and deal with issues before they arise
• Seek out opportunities to improve oneself technically and professionally
• Mentor other engineers and ensure system quality by performing code and design reviews
• Document systems thoroughly, both in terms of design and implementation
• Provide reliable and accurate time estimates for tasks
• Display ownership of quality by ensuring project success starting from inception to deployment, within and outside the Service Platform Group
• Provide ongoing support for existing applications
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the manager

Technical Requirements

• Minimal 6 years of professional experience in software engineering
• Minimal 4 years of professional PHP with strong object-oriented programming skills
• Minimal 2 years of experience with Linux, Apache, SQL (MySQL)
• Minimal 3 years experience developing medium to large-scale software applications, with load balancing
• Front-end experience working with user interfaces with an eye towards usability
• Familiarity with the following: Java/C#, Web Services (SOAP), Agile and test driven development, Open source development community, XML, XSLT, HTML, CSS, JavaScript

• Professional C# experience with strong object-oriented programming skills
• Professional C++ experience
• Professional experience with .NET Framework
• Professional experience with SQL (MySQL, MS-SQL and Oracle)
• Experience with one or more of the following: billing systems, e-Commerce, web services, network security, shell scripting, XML-RPC, installers, release management
• BSCS or equivalent engineering training
• Knowledge of and passion for MMO games
