We are looking for an associate level engineer to be part of a team that designs, implements, debugs, and tunes the game mechanics for Turbine’s premier title, The Lord of the Rings Online. A few examples of the types of systems that this team is responsible for include AI, combat, skill, inventory, treasure, and social systems. If you have both strong engineering skills, a passion for video games, and have always been interested in working in the game industry, this is a great opportunity!
Candidates should demonstrate their drive, motivation, and dedication to computer games. The ideal candidate will be a dedicated gamer and be able to critically analyze the game play of state-of-the-art videogames.
Candidates must be comfortable working in a professional work-environment and be capable of working closely with peers and managers. The candidate should possess strong communication and technical leadership skills and be able to discuss technical issues with non-technical people such as artists, designers, and producers.
Essential Functions:
1. Work closely with game designers to understand the overall vision for a system
2. Develop and test code for new systems and augment existing systems
3. Produce technical designs and estimates for new systems or upgrades to existing systems
4. Work with QA to help develop test plans for and debug a system
5. Tune and fix bugs in existing game-level systems as required to enhance the game
6. Provide reliable and accurate time estimates for tasks
7. Document systems thoroughly, both in terms of design and implementation
8. Perform code reviews of other team members to ensure code quality
9. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the manager
Required Skills:
Requirements and Qualifications
· Strong passion for video games; especially RPGs or MMPs
· College degree in computer science or equivalent experience
· 2+ years of professional experience with C++ in a development role
· Ability to work in an agile development environment
· Experience with software development best practices
Pluses
· Experience working on a massively multiplayer online game
· Experience shipping a game
· Experience supporting a live product
· Working knowledge of Perforce
· Ability to program in Perl
· Working with level editors and scripting systems of other games
