The position requires experience with fast-paced development environments with a team focus. Technically a candidate must have an in-depth knowledge of interface development technologies, such as HTML, CSS, JSP, JavaScript, and XML. Other desired strengths are Flash ActionScript 3, Ruby, AJAX, jQuery and PHP, as well as website usability and functionality.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develops website interface templates using technologies such as CSS, JavaScript, HTML, JSP and XML/XSL.
• Works with content management system (CMS) to integrate front-end UI code with back-end applications.
• Provides ongoing maintenance and troubleshooting of the interface code when bugs or errors are encountered.
• Develops user interface features and enhancements as necessary.
• Provides technical leadership among other developers on the team.
• Seek out opportunities to implement improvements to internal team processes and deliverables.
• Ensure adherence to newspaper and broadcast styles and structure decisions.
• Assist product development, marketing and classified departments in production of promotions, prototypes and testing.
• Collaborate with back-end developers in site production and development • Work with SEO Management to guarantee search engine optimization is best in industry • Stay abreast of industry issues, trends and inventory solutions and recommend improvements to the Operations team.
• To perform other duties assigned by management.
Requirements
BA/BS degree or equivalent experience with internet technologies and production environments.
Requires a minimum of 5 years of user interface development experience.
Extensive experience with appropriate tools and languages JSP, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, XML and broader open-source production is essential, along with intermediate-level knowledge of Flash ActionScript 3, PHP, Ruby, and AJAX.
Comfortable communicating with and taking input from a variety of people.
Excellent time management skills.
Solid understanding of web technology, including technical capabilities and limitations Professional experience collaborating in a team environment on large-scale web site development projects.
Familiar with best practice web usability and solid understanding of web technology, including technical capabilities and limitations Proven record of designing superior, easy to use consumer interfaces Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Must be detail oriented.
Must have a strong customer focus that conveys responsiveness and competence.
Any Java development experience on the back-end is needed…even if the Java experience is LIGHT…it is necessary.
